"What Are You Reading?"
A question we should ask more.
I had lunch with my pastor today. We talked about our lives, and the life of the church, and prayer requests. But then he asked me this question: “What are you reading?”
This is a powerful question that we should ask each other often. It invites conversation, not only about the book itself, but how their thoughts are interacting with that book. How it is touching (or not) their soul.
If it were a frequent question among us, it would be a subtle nod to read, and thus, to think.
My answer was that I was rereading John Murray’s Redemption Accomplished and Applied. If I had expounded (I wish I had in retrospect), I would talk about how Murray so clearly ties the Atonement to the love of God in ways you don’t often read in books about the Atonement. It made me stop reading and ponder. And worship.
These are the things we should be sharing with each other.
So Matt, thanks for the question. I wish I had answered more fully.
And I hereby publicly commit to asking 5 people that question this week.
